Lavish Crystal, now in Pin-Up 💄💋

She knew what to do as soon as she set foot in the door.

Crystal and I had such a great time working together that we both immediately wanted to do it again before I left the area. I have a great time with almost every model I shoot, so it’s common to exchange the “we should work together again!” sentiment as we part ways, but with Crystal it seemed much more urgent and intentional – more like “we need to do this again soon.” And so we did!

As with any model I work with a second time, I’m always searching for something different. Often that means I shoot with film instead of digital the second time, which instantly makes everything quite different. Unfortunately I didn’t bring any film photography gear with me during my summer travels, so that option was out. Change of venue, then? I had just the place – a close friend’s house.

“My house is a disaster,” she declared when I raised the possibility with her. And to her, it certainly is, but it’s a beautiful disaster, so I persisted. Eventually she got around to dusting off a few places to her satisfaction and opened it up to us. I knew, though, that in truth we could probably shoot all over the house, because it’s cluttered with stuff that’s colorful and interesting. As long as I get a handful of great shots that I can share with all of you here, I’m not fussed about what else we get up to, especially when I’m working with a model for a second time.

The vibe for this shoot, then, was much freer, lighthearted, sassy. Crystal fell in love with the place within two seconds of stepping through the door and understood what the assignment was. Bright colors, big smiles, pin-up style poses. The only thing I told her to bring along, in fact, was some racy lipstick – I knew we’d have everything else we needed immediately at hand.
